A few years after graduating high school he took a job at the Diamond J Ranch which, by the way, is the farthest he’s ever lived from home. In 1985 he met his future bride, Karen, who is also a native of CO – born in Denver. They married on 1987 and still like each other to this day. Ken was raised Catholic while Karen was raised Methodist. Like the Collier’s they have found many ways to ecumenically share their love of Jesus with each other. They have a daughter Megan and a son Zachary. Ken & Karen like to do things together: at 24 yrs they were married, at 34 yrs they both “came back” to Christ and at 37 yrs they each went on their pilgrim “Walk to Emmaus” which they say have been the greatest spiritual weekends of their married life. They enjoy camping, hiking, hunting, boating, and beating each other at multiple games of “gin”. The family came to Church at Carbondale in February 1997 and Ken became an Elder in 2000.

Brian Magee and Holly were married in the summer of 2008 on the top of Sunlight Ski area. Brian met Holly at church and courted her, even though he found out that she was Hadley’s little sister. However, over a period of time, attending church, being involved in a home Bible study and observing the lives of some C@C people he put his trust in Jesus as his Lord and Savior. They are both avid outdoors people, taking every chance to bike, kayak, camp, hike and climb in our beautiful area.
The New Testament describes the leadership/nourishment structure for the church: Pastors/Elders who function primarily as shepherds to the flock and deacons who serve the needs of the church. Acts 6:1-7; 20:17-21; 1 Timothy 3:1-15; 1 Peter 5:1-4.
Elders are chosen for their Christlike character qualities and relational skills.
1Tim. 3:1 “Here is a trustworthy saying: If anyone sets his heart on being an overseer, he desires a noble task.”
Elder Character:
1Tim. 3:2 Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable,
1Tim. 3:3 not given to drunkenness, not a lover of money.
1Tim. 3:6 He must not be a recent convert, or he may become conceited and fall under the same judgment as the devil.
1Pet. 5:2 not greedy for money, but eager to serve.
Elder Relationship Skills:
1Tim. 3:2 hospitable,
1Tim. 3:3 not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome,
1Tim. 3:4 He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him with proper respect.
1Tim. 3:7 He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil’s trap.
1Pet. 5:3 not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.
Elder Skills (duties):
1Tim. 3:2 able to teach,
1Tim. 3:5 (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God’s church?)
1Pet. 5:1-4 To the elders (presbuteroi, older ones who lead because of experience) among you, I appeal as a fellow elder, a witness of Christ’s sufferings and one who also will share in the glory to be revealed: Be shepherds (poimaenoi, shepherd/pastor) of God’s flock that is under your care, serving as overseers (episkopoi, bishop, those who watch over) not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be.
