Leadership
Mick Daly (Elder, Purpose Leader: Leader Development)
On Elder Sunday 2005 I challenged you to be all
God created you to be. On Elder Sunday
September 3rd 2006, I focused on one aspect of how I believe we were all created: to be leaders.
Developing Leaders is an established passion of mine (in our business)
and my responsibility here at C@C.
My 9:00 am class on Sunday Feb. 4th laid a foundation for our Leadership
Development 2007 training - here is the powerpoint presentation, which
should be pretty self-explanatory (especially if you download it - right
mouse click "save target as" and read the comments with each slide):
Servant Leadership.
Articles
One of my biblical heroes (after Jesus himself) is Barnabas, who was an outstanding
example of servant leadership and mentoring. Here are all of the (33)
verses in the New Testament that mention Barnabas - it gives a fascinating
picture of this "good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith":
Barnabas in the New Testament.
Does the picture below
scare you? No worries - this is not what I’m talking about! Let me make one
thing clear:
I am NOT a good
Leader - I probably need another 60 years to get anywhere close! Borrowing from Paul’s words in Philippians 3:12-14
“Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made
perfect, but … I press on toward the goal.”
I’m just
“pressing on”, growing and learning all the time.

"The first task of a leader is to help define reality. The
last is to say ‘thank you.’ In between, the leader is a servant." -- Max
DePree

us looks like a Sheep from the front and a Shepherd from the back” -- Dr. Lynn Anderson
"A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.”

Leadership Small Group
We concluded this year-long study.
Here is the complete Discussion
Guide.
As useful as teaching and small group discussion are, 'knowing' is not
enough if transformation is to happen, and without transformation, we will
never lead like Jesus. The Lead Like Jesus curriculum we used (including the book Lead Like Jesus by
Blanchard and Hodges) challenges us to lead like Jesus, and equips us to
close the “knowing-doing” gap and become Christ-like Servant Leaders (who
are able to transform our organizations, our homes, our communities) by
developing us in four levels of leadership. For more on this read:
Lead Like
Jesus Transformational Journey.
As a 'bridge' from the Lead Like Jesus study into the future, I offer this
"Trilateral Leadership Ledger";
I hope you find it useful.
