I read this quote and I believe it speaks of and for the small group process. Change can take place slowly over time, as sand and water erode rock or it can take place quickly like lightning striking a tree. The point is that change occurs, it is an integral part of life. Change and growth in your walk with God is like that. Go it alone and you will over time change ever so slowly. Enter into the fray with a group of friends who are for you and it can come more quickly and more fully.
In the Bible, in Acts chapter two, followers of Jesus knew that deep, authentic relationships were vital to their spiritual growth. So this early church formed a community: They ate together, worshiped together, shared their belongings—in essence, they did life together. As a result, they grew stronger in their relationships with God and with one another. People were drawn to investigate Christianity because of the loving relationships these believers had. One of the challenges that hinders most us from experiencing the incredible benefits of small group is figuring out how to fit another thing into our busy lives. By the time many of us get home from work, have dinner and get cleaned up it is 7:30 or 8:00. Driving to the other side of town or up/down valley to get to a small group then getting home after 10:00 makes it hard to just attend, let alone experience the list of benefits. We’ve learned that if you are within a 5-10 minute drive of the folks in your small group, you are much more likely to spend additional time with them other than just when your small group meets.
Here at Church at Carbondale we offer a variety of groups where you can experience the same elements of community as those experienced by early believers. It’s always about building relationships and taking the next steps in your journey toward Christ.
We believe there should be a small group of C@C folks in every neighborhood from New Castle to Basalt. Over the next several years we are going to be filling in the map with more small groups in more neighborhoods. If there is not already a small group in your neighborhood and you would be interested in hosting or leading one, we would love to help figure out how it could be done. I will come and facilitate the group until there is a leader from the group that can carry it on. If you’re interested in being in a neighborhood small group, please contact me.
Grow your relational bandwidth and deepen your connection with God by joining a group that is right for you!!!
